Career Life and Jobs

Asked along with 99 other young people who were out of work to appear on a chat show on ITV made by the World In Action Team (Devil’s Advocate), Terry was spotted over eight weeks of the show being networked by a couple of BBC producers and offered his own week night show, Barbed Wireless, on BBC Radio Derby. Inspired by Anthony H Wilson and what he’d experienced of the fledgling Manchester Music scene that came from punk, Terry felt inspired to present a show focusing on all kinds of new music, from Jazz Funk, Reggae and Punk to Indie with his main focus on up and coming bands from the Derby/ Nottingham area. His Barbed Wireless show which ran from 1982-1988 twice won the Sony Radio Award for the Best Specialist music show, Terry also worked on Saturday Live on Radio One (1986-1988) and presented a show called WPFM on Radio 4 from 1986 – 1988.

Terry also managed several bands including 12 piece Reggae Band Junior C Reaction (signed to Chrysalis records in 1985) and promoted his own gigs with bands such as The Fall, Nico (of Velvet Underground fame), Pop Will Eat Itself ,,The Cocteau Twins, Misty In Roots, James, In spiral Carpets and many others. In 1988 Terry returned to Manchester to present the 6-9pm slot on Piccadilly/Key 103.The show became a showcase for the latest wave of new talent coming up in Manchester such as The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, In spiral Carpets, 808 State, A Guy Called, The Charlatans etc. With all the fuss over the next eighteen months about Madchester, Terry was offered the job of presenting and formatting a new show for Channel 4 called The Word.

He also presented the UK’s biggest football phone The Final Whistle on Talk sport from August 2006- August 2008, and the breakfast show on Radio Manchester from April 2006-June 2007 and the Drive time show from June2007 to April 2008 as well as presenting The Manchester Music show covering new unsigned talent from the Greater Manchester Area from January 2002 until July 2008. He also won a Jerusalem Gold award in 2006 for Best outside Broadcast, For the Manchester Passion on BBC Radio Manchester. He finished second in reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother in January 2009. He currently presents shows called ‘Sunday Worship’ and ‘The Terry Christian Big Interview’, and Live at the Red Café for Manchester United Television and a seventh series of ‘It’s My Life’ was aired in the spring of 2009. He’s also narrated the series ‘Asbo Teen To Beauty Queen for Channel 5 in 2007, several documentary Series for Discovery Channels (The Gymn 2004, and presented and narrated a number of music specials and series for both VH1 (Madchester Remembered, Biggest selling singles of The Nineties, Top Twenty coolest Records ever)) and MTV (Best New Bands of 2006). He’s appeared as a regular guest on numerous shows including That’s Show Business (BBC1), The Politics Show, The Big Questions, Sunday Live, Fantasy Football, 8 out Of 10 Cats, Would I Lie To You, Have I Got News For You, Room 101, Watchdog, The Culture Show, Celebrity Come Dine With Me, Celebrity Mastermind, Celebrity Weakest Link and iis a patron of The Five Stars Charity and is a regular panelist on The Wright Stuff on Channel 5. He currently Presents Terry Christians NWA (North West Attitude) on Imagine FM 104.9
