Richard Cohen is CBS News Journalist, former senior television producer at CBS News and CNN and author.
Richard Cohen was born on 14th of February, 1948 in Connecticut, USA as Richard Merrill Cohen. He was born to Teresa Beitzer and Benjamin Cohen, a doctor. He is of American nationality. At 25 years, he was suffered from multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic progressive nervous disorder involving loss of myelin sheath around certain nerve fibers from which, he gradually lost his eyesight, physical balance and strength. He has also copped up with two bouts of colon cancer in 1999 and 2000.
Richard M. Cohen did his graduation from Simpson College in 1970. He did another graduation from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1976. Cohen was a Fellow of Institute of Politics, Harvard University in 1985. He was visiting professor of writing at Johns Hopkins University in 1989. He was also a Journalist in Residence at U. Cal. Berkley.
Richard M. Cohen initiated his journalism career at ABC News in 1971 as assistant producer of Issues and Answers. Later he became floor producer for ABC News at 1972 political conventions.
He has contributed to Health and Fitness section of the New York Times. He was also a producer on PBS’s McNeil Lehrer Report. In 1979, he produced the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. In 1989, with Bill Moyers, he produced and directed Illusions of Newsfor PBS and in 1992, Bill Clinton of Arkansas for CNN.
Cohen is legally blind due to MS. Cohen had hid his illness in order to save his job as a TV news producer for years. Later, he has written an autobiography entitled Blindsided: Lifting a Life Above Illness- A Reluctant Memoir in 2004. The book is based on his own story from his survival of multiple sclerosis, colon cancer and the effect of chronic illness on his life.

Cohen is married to Meredith Vieira on June 14, 1986. They reside in Irvington, Westchester Country, New York. Vieira is NBC News Special Correspondent and former host of ABC’s show, The View. The couple have grown three children together; Ben Cohen (1989), Gabe Cohen (1991) and Lily Cohen (1993). Gabe Cohen, their middle child, also adopted the same profession who was a reporter at KHQ-TV in Spokane, Washington and he is now a reporter at KOMO-TV in Seattle.
