English actor and director Matt Smith was born on 28 October 1982, in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England as Matthew Robert Smith. Matthew Robert Smith attended a state secondary school, Northampton School for Boys. He excelled at sports at an early age, playing for youth football teams Northampton Town F.C., Nottingham Forest F.C. and Leicester City F.C.
Smith's drama teacher suggested him to play a role in a school production of Twelve Angry Men, sparking a love of acting. Smith finally joined the National Youth Theatre in London, where his first roles on the stage included those in Murder in the Cathedral and The Master and Margarita. He went on to study drama and creative writing at the University of East Anglia. He graduated in 2005. His first theatre roles as part of the National Youth Theatre were as follows: Thomas Becket in Murder in the Cathedral and Basoon in The Master and Margarita. His role in the latter earned him an agent and his first professional jobs, which were Fresh Kills and On the Shore of the Wide World. His new professional roles led him to seek an agreement with his university so that he could graduate without attending lectures in his final year.
At the age of 27, he is the youngest actor to be cast as the Doctor in the British sci-fi series Doctor Who (2005). Prior to him, the youngest had been Peter Davison, who was 29 when he was cast in 1981. Of the eleven actors to play the Doctor in Doctor Who (1963), Doctor Who (1996) and Doctor Who (2005), he and Christopher Eccleston are the only two who never worked with the late Nicholas Courtney, who played Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart in the former from 1968 to 1989 as well as in numerous Big Finish audio dramas. He is the first actor to play the Doctor in Doctor Who to be born after the death of William Hartnell, the first actor to play the Doctor (who died in 1975). Had Hartnell lived long enough, he would have been nearly 75 when Smith was born. His big theatre break however came in 2007 with the award winning West End play 'That Face' where he played a hapless aspiring artist who renounces his dreams to look after his alcoholic mother. Gladly in Matt's case life does not imitate art, and his own artistic dreams were fast becoming a reality.
His first major TV role was in Party Animals, a BBC drama about the profligate life of Parliamentary Researchers in Westminster. This was fairly small fry in comparison to what was to come: filling David Tennant's shoes as the next Doctor Who.
Talking about his dating life, Matt has picked up a model girlfriend Daisy Lowe. Standing at the height of six feet, he has a nice personality. His pictures are searched very often and many sites have his shirtless pictures. He is a British by nationality and he is of white ethnicity. The English actor has an estimated net worth of $245 million. He still has more of his years to come. He would certainly try his best to gain name and fame in the acting career he has chosen to pursue. Wish him best of luck for his bright future and a successful career ahead.
